TEACHING & LEARNING
As our students progress into the Senior School, a focus on building character and independence as learners rapidly develops, with students now able to specilaise in the subjects they choose to study.
Key Stage 3 (Year 9)
Students entering Year 9 in our Senior School have the opportunity to choose aspects of the curriculum for the first time. This important year lays down the academic and pastoral foundations for success at GCSE

GCSE (Years 10 & 11)
GCSEs are taught across Years 10 and 11, with a focus on meeting each student's individual needs and supporting them in their ambitions. Teachers know their students and work with them to achieve their aspirational challenge grades.
Farlington offers an extensive, varied and challenging curriculum at GCSE. Everyone is entered for English Language (and the majority for English Literature). There is also an English as an Additional Language (EAL) alternative for our international students. Mathematics is, of course, studied by everyone, as are all three Sciences (although there is the choice to be entered for either a double or triple award).
In addition, students select four subjects from the GCSE choices available, to ensure that they have a balanced programme. The standard total number of GCSEs taken at Farlington therefore ranges from 9 to 11.
You can find full details of the subjects that we offer at GCSE on our curriculum microsite.
