TEACHING & LEARNING

In the Lower School, children begin their exciting learning journey. A balance is struck between child-initiated activities and more structured work, with a strong focus on the building blocks of learning: reading and writing, mathematics and learning skills.

Our pupils experience a broad and balanced curriculum, with careful planning for continuity and progress that takes individual differences into account. The curriculum is designed to foster an interest beyond the curriculum and to develop a love of learning, at an early age.

In the Lower School, subject specialists teach music, modern languages and sport to the pupils. The students also enjoy weekly swimming lessons.

The highlight of the week for many pupils is their visit to our Forest School site, where they experience the natural world whilst outdoors. Many social skills are also promoted through this exciting and innovative approach to learning. Pupils go outside whatever the weather, so wellingtons and waterproofs are essential equipment.

As your child enters Year 3, they will be taught by experienced staff who will ensure that the pupils are given the individual and intellectual stimulation needed to provide a firm foundation for future development.

Your child will be taught using the framework of the National Curriculum, but teachers also include extra activities from outside the syllabus to further enrich teaching and learning.

Please see our curriculum microsite for more information about the Lower School curriculum, our Forest School provision and moving up through the school.
