The sun was shining over The Bridge athletics track on Friday, 22 May, as pupils from Years 3-13 came together for another unforgettable Farlington Sports Day.

With students proudly dressed in their house colours, Hawking in green, Luther King in blue, and Parks in red - the day was full of energy, determination and outstanding displays of sportsmanship. From our youngest competitors in Year 3, to Sixth Form students preparing for their final school Sports Day, the atmosphere reflected the strong sense of community that lies at the heart of Farlington life.

The morning saw pupils in Years 3–6 take to the track and field for a wide variety of events, including hurdles, relays, long jump, high jump, vortex throw, javelin and middle-distance races. The afternoon welcomed students from Years 7-13, who competed in an exciting programme of athletics events including discus, shot put, javelin, high jump, long jump and exciting relay races.

Throughout the day, our students demonstrated remarkable resilience, encouragement and team spirit. Plenty of personal bests and school records were broken, but what stood out most was the support shown for every competitor. Students cheered each other on from the sidelines, and every athlete was applauded over the finish line, no matter how long it took to complete the race.

Sports Day perfectly captured Farlington’s core values of Individuality, Opportunity and Community. Everyone had the opportunity to participate, challenge themselves and contribute to their house team in their own unique way. Whether competing for a medal, overcoming nerves before an event or simply trying something new, students were encouraged to embrace personal growth and celebrate each other’s achievements.

Director of Sport, Mr Simon Faulkner, praised the students for their enthusiasm, resilience and support for one another throughout the day. He commented on the fantastic atmosphere at The Bridge and the determination shown by students across every age group and event, highlighting how the occasion reflected the inclusive and encouraging spirit of Farlington.

Sports Day was incredibly well supported by parents, families and staff, whose encouragement helped to create such a positive and uplifting atmosphere throughout the day. Families gathered around the track to celebrate successes, support determination and enjoy the wonderful sense of togetherness that defines the Farlington community.

Adding to the celebrations, an ice cream van proved especially popular in the warm sunshine, with all students enjoying a well-earned treat between events.
