Studying at Farlington Residentials

Farlington Research Programme (ages 14-18 years)

This programme includes 15 hours of specialist tuition, and is a great option if you’re looking to both develop your research and writing skills, while also gaining 8 UCAS points for university applications. This programme is suitable for students aged 14-18.

Modules will include:

• How to plan research on a given topic 

• How to assess the reliability of a range of different types of information sources

• How to utilise information to inform their own writing                                        

• Research Topics are agreed with your course tutor but can include any of the following areas to tailor your research to your preferred undergraduate course of study: technology, science, medicine, child care, sport, culture, Arts, and business.

• The qualification is internally assessed in each of the above units and externally verified. 

Entry Requirements:

There are no entry requirements for students to undertake the course content, although learners who have previously achieved at Level 2 or have comparable experience may be better prepared to achieve this qualification. Students should have a level of English proficiency at an independent level (at either a B1 or B2 - B2 is recommended) to be confident of passing the assessments, and to have confidence to be able to gain the qualification. 

A Richer Experience:

Our Residentials are focused on preparing students for further study in the UK and overseas. Attending one of our residentials at Farlington is an excellent way to prepare should you wish to subsequently apply for a place at Farlington School (for which entry requirements are higher), or other College or University. They also provide a great opportunity to experience a short-term British Boarding education and cultural trips.

Each Residential course will include an elective activity session per day. At the start of each week, Residential students will select an activity for each day from the a list or activities, which may include any of the following examples:

Trips and Visits:

During a stay at Farlington Residentials, we want students to experience different parts of the UK, which may also form a part of your research proposal. We run a trip to London mid-week, with a cultural activity included. 

Our weekend trips enhance students' experience of the UK - examples include a day trip to Brighton on the coast, and a trip to Portsmouth historic dockyard on the train.

During the week, a trip to Horsham (our local town) can also be expected.
