THE FARLINGTON PATHWAYS PHILOSOPHY

Our Pathways Philosophy seeks to support each student throughout their post-16 educational and developmental journey.

This begins with a Pathway Planning Meeting (PPM) – an admissions interview – in Year 11. These meetings help to identify which subjects each prospective student might take at A-Level; which interests they might have; what their thoughts are on their broader educational goals; and where they think they might be going next.

Once part of Farlington Sixth Form, each student’s individual Pathway consists of three coexisting strands:

  • Academics & Wellbeing
  • Enrichment & Engagement
  • Preparation for the Future

This holistic and integrative approach enables students to keep focused on their own personal journey, serving as a stepping stone as they fulfil their potential and guiding them towards their next chapter.

Academics & Wellbeing

Fundamental to the Farlington Sixth Form philosophy is that it is impossible to separate academics from pastoral support. Acknowledging that these two are inextricably linked informs how we structure our systems.

Enrichment & Engagement

The ‘Enrichment & Engagement’ strand of our Pathways programme is an inclusive system that allows every Farlington Sixth Form student to be involved in an enrichment activity, whether it is outdoors or indoors; practical, intellectual or unusual. As such, we offer a range of extra-curricular activities designed to extend and broaden the experience of our students.

Preparation for the Future

The final strand of our Pathways Philosophy ties everything together, thereby allowing our students to enter the wider world with the skills and confidence to navigate more complex waters.
