PRE PREP CURRICULUM

In Farlington Pre-Prep, children continue on their exciting learning journey. A balance is struck between child-initiated activities and more structured work, with a strong focus on the building blocks of learning: reading and writing, mathematics and learning skills.

Our pupils experience a broad and balanced curriculum, with careful planning for continuity and progress that takes individual differences into account. The curriculum is designed to foster an interest beyond the curriculum and to develop a love of learning, at an early age.

In Reception, all subjects are taught by your child's class teacher, but in Years 1 and 2 subject specialists teach music, French, swimming and other sports to the pupils.

The highlight of the week for many pupils is their visit to our Forest School site, where they experience the natural world whilst outdoors. Many social skills are also promoted through this exciting and innovative approach to learning. Pupils go outside whatever the weather, so wellingtons and waterproofs are essential equipment.

More information about what your child will be learning during their Pre-Prep years at Farlington can be found below:

Reception

In their Reception year, all of the children work towards completing the Early Learning Goals of the Foundation Stage, and aim to begin working towards Key Stage One by the end of the year.

Prep 1 and Prep 2

In Years 1 and 2, we follow the National Curriculum. However, here at Farlington we have the great advantage of being able to use the good practice of the National Curriculum but tailor it to suit our children and their needs.

By teaching to each child’s strength, we can ensure they develop great attitudes to learning, with extensive knowledge and understanding. Here all children are able to work at their pace, in a safe and caring environment, where the staff value and believe in them and their abilities.
