PREPARATION FOR LIFE AFTER FARLINGTON
At Farlington College Horsham, we encourage students to be ambitious in their plans for life beyond school, and will support the applications of all Sixth Form students, be they for university, apprenticeships or beyond. Our end goal is for each Sixth Form student in our care to find and follow their desired future path, and to be happy.
UCAS applications
Most of our Year 13 students progress to university, and if this is the path you choose to take, staff will help you prepare your university application during the last few weeks of Year 12. Building on our Pathways Philosophy, this preparation will include offering advice on choosing the right course and university, setting up visits to a variety of universities, and providing guidance in writing personal statements, attending interviews and arranging work experience.
In conjunction with the Unifrog portal (see below), our specialist Tutors' in-depth knowledge of each student’s achievements, interests and aspirations helps manage this application process effectively, allowing every student to write their best personal statement and submit their strongest application.
Unifrog
This is the foremost independent online careers platform in the country. Through a series of personality and preference tests – in conjunction with skills builders and a continuously updated database of careers, complete with salary information and qualification requirements – each student is able to set up their own portal, which enables them to investigate any number of potential future pathways.
Trips & Speakers
When appropriate, we bring the whole Sixth Form together for trips to universities, as well as the biggest careers fair in the South East, Skills London.
Similarly, we run a very active programme of external speakers, who come into school to give talks and lectures about their professional lives. To date, we have welcomed PR and marketing consultants, members of the medical and law professions, representatives from John Lewis and Berkeley Homes, and EY Apprenticeship graduates.
