Farlington is delighted be shortlisted for the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2018. The school is in contention for ‘Prep School of the Year’ in the Independent School Parent magazine awards.
For Farlington, this comes during a year when we were awarded the accolade of being one of the Top 100 UK Prep Schools by the Sunday Times Parent Power Survey, and our excellent A Level examination results meant we were placed 12th in the UK in the Daily Telegraph Smaller Schools League Tables and the top school in West Sussex.
Hundreds of schools of different sizes and from across the country – from tiny, local Pre-Preps to Senior schools which are household names – submitted entries in all the categories. The ‘Best Prep School’ category had the highest number of entries, with over 45 schools applying. Winners will be announced in December.
Farlington’s submission celebrated the innovative work undertaken with the Prep School children to enhance their visual literacy. Penny Huntsman, Head of Art History and author of the first A Level History of Art textbook, delivered an innovative Art History programme to Year 5 pupils. Introduced to a formal analysis toolbox, pupils can now speak with great insight and confidence about what they actually see in canonical works of art, and also about the artist’s probable intentions.
The aim of the awards is to highlight the quality of the student experience in independent schools and we are pleased that the quality and innovation in teaching at Farlington has been recognised.
Louise Higson, Headmistress, comments: “We have an excellent staff at Farlington and I am incredibly proud of everyone who works so hard to provide a wonderful education and environment for our pupils.”
